Cataloging & Preservation Department
Cataloging:
Our mission is to make all print, non-print, and digital materials available to patrons as soon as possible after receipt. This is done by entering bibliographic descriptions into the computer system which is searchable through the OPAC. To make browsing by topic easier for the patron all serials and media are being classified, instead of being arranged on the shelves by title.

Preservation:
Our mission is to assure the long term survival of Copley Library’s print and non-print collections through preventive measures as far as possible. We monitor environmental conditions, repair books in-house or send them to the bindery, and instruct students in the correct handling of all materials. Patrons noticing moldy books, damaged materials, leaking water, insects, living or dead animals in the library should bring this to the Department Head’s attention.
The Department consists of two librarians, five staff catalogers, several student workers and a graduate assistant. It is located on the lower floor in Technical Services.
Special Services:
- In-house book repair (x2468)
- IN PROCESS materials can be expedited (Books: x6989; Media: x8951)
- RUSH cataloging can be requested by faculty (Books: x6989; Media: x8951)
